Diastasis Recti Rehab In Boise
Diastasis Rectus Abdominis (DRA), or diastasis for short, is the separation of the abdominal wall. During pregnancy, 100% of women will develop this at some point by the end of their pregnancy. However, the degree to which it will persist is variable. If never adequately addressed, an individual may develop a variety of symptoms later on in life such as chronic low back pain, hip pain, poorer posture, pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence and more.
Women who complain of having the “mom pooch” since having kids commonly have persistent weakness in the deep core and tissue restrictions causing a more prominent lower abdomen. To adequately address this weakness, one must loosen these restrictions and properly isolate the transverse abdominis muscle and other key muscles. If someone has tried to focus on their core and not seen results, often we find they weren’t targeting muscles correctly or perhaps they weren’t doing the exercise in the most effective method for their present strength. Additionally, doing exercises incorrectly can actually exacerbate the symptoms one may be experiencing.
At Treasure Valley Pelvic Health, not only will you receive a customized exercise program for your core, you will be confident that you are doing the exercises correctly. We address other soft tissue restrictions that may perpetuate the diastasis and symptoms with hands on techniques.
